Overview of Social Registry WB Annapurna Bhandar
The Social Registry for West Bengal is a significant data infrastructure project supported by the World Bank. It is intended to act as an integrated, dynamic information system for social protection. The primary purpose of this registry is to serve as a one-stop platform for the intake, registration, and determination of eligibility for one or more social programs.
This initiative aims to strengthen the coverage and targeting of assistance for poor and vulnerable groups within the state. The Government of West Bengal (GoWB) is developing this registry, which will form a crucial part of the ‘Jai Bangla’ platform. The registry will proactively identify citizens eligible for various benefits through a “Trigger Management Platform,” reducing the need for individual applications.
The registry will utilize the Socio-Economic Census of 2011 as baseline data and will eventually cover all potential applicants across various programs. This project is a part of a broader state effort to create a unified portal for all Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes, managed with assistance from the National Informatics Centre.
